In the sportswear world dominated by the big global brands, it’s nice to discover a young designer pushing the boundaries of traditional exercise clothing. Charli Cohen has been a Fashercise style crush from the very beginning, so we were thrilled to be invited to the launch of her very first collection last week.
Charli graduated from Kingston University last year as Womenswear Student of The Year which won her a number of accolades, including an award from Lycra who have supported her over the past year in developing her first collection, named VIS. As a personal trainer as well as a designer, Charli knows the technical qualities sportswear requires, whereas her fashion background means she was able to create pieces which are as stylish as they are functional.
The result is a great first collection packed with must-have transitional pieces, which we’d more than happily wear to the gym, and to the bar. The grey and yellow colour scheme (matching the Fashercise logo – it’s like it was meant to be!) mean you still get the slimming and elegant effect of the darker items, mixed with a bright colour pop of yellow. Rather than a traditional catwalk performance, we were treated to a yoga performance, which allowed us to see the clothes up close and in action, rather than from afar.
It’s so great to see young designers like Charli Cohen trying to make their mark on the sportswear industry, pushing boundaries and giving the customer even more choice. The SS14 collection will be for sale in a couple of months’ time, so make sure you keep an eye out for this bright new talent! We sure will…
