Meet Anjhe Mules, founder and Creative Director of luxury sportswear label Lucas Hugh. Launched in 2010, Lucas Hugh was one of the first labels to incorporate high fashion into highly technical sportswear. We speak to Anjhe about her inspirations, gym style tips and favourite workouts!
Who are you?
Hi I’m Anjhe Mules, I am the Founder and Creative Director of Lucas Hugh activewear.
What inspires you?
Technology, music, innovation, futurism, space travel… or going for a long run in Hyde Park, this generates lots of creative thought!
Who is the Lucas Hugh girl?
She is someone who appreciates that working out is part of her life and because she is interesting and on the pulse – she needs clothes to reflect that. She is also busy and requires more versatility from her gym wear – clothes that can transcend from the treadmill to a meeting or stopping at store
How did you get into designing sportswear?
I had been designing swimwear for 15 years in NYC and London, after graduating from Design College in New Zealand (where I am from). It was a natural progression for me to move into activewear. I have always worked out regularly (also part of my New Zealand DNA) I found it very difficult to find something that not only performed really well, but also looked good enough to wear through the day.
I spent 3 years researching and developing the Lucas Hugh product in some of the leading sportswear factories around the world, before launching the brand in 2010.
Where do you see yourself / the brand in 5 years’ time?
LUCAS HUGH is already a global brand (we supply stores in about 25 countries) but we intend to strengthen our presence internationally, and open a few of our own stores.
What’s the one item every woman should have in her wardrobe?
A pair of LUCAS HUGH signature core leggings. These have internal support in the front waist and bottom. IPhone and key pockets, quick dry, moisture wicking fabric with high visibility for running at night. They are also really comfortable – so you can wear them all day.
What are your style tips for dressing to the gym?
Personally I love to wear pops of strong primary colours – it’s energizing and empowering. From AW14 I am wearing the spectra capri leggings with the red core cross-back bra and the black mesh cubic tank.
What’s your favorite healthy snack?
I like a handful of brazil nuts or a Jax coconut water.
What do you indulge in on a cheat day?
I love the lemon and polenta cakes from Ottolengi – they are delicious!!
What’s your workout of choice?
A run in Hyde Park on a sunny day or a reformer Pilates class at Heartcore
Do you have any fitness goals you would love to achieve?
I am trying to do more yoga. I do a lot of resistance training and running and am making an effort to complement that with stretch and elongation.
What do you do to relax?
I listen to audio books, or the sounds of rain – if I cant sleep.
If there was a soundtrack to your life, what song would be playing right now?
I really like house music. I am currently listening to Lane 8, ‘Every night’
