Who is the Olympia Activewear girl?
The Olympia girl is modern and refined. She mixes up her workouts: barre, boxing, pilates, the gym, hiking, spinning, dance, yoga. She is style conscious and chooses to wear pieces that fit her on-the-go lifestyle.
How did you get into designing sportswear?
It really came out of necessity. Several years ago I hit the spinning craze and was addicted to that high-intensity endorphin rush, yet I couldn’t find the right moisture-wicking apparel. It all lacked style and I found a lot of activewear to be over-designed. I needed something straightforward and thoughtfully designed, so I created Olympia.
Where do you see yourself/brand in 5 years’ time?
In five years I’d like to see slow and steady growth. Possibly a flagship location with retail and a workout studio, serving fresh juices and coconuts après workout. For myself, I hope for a sense of calm amidst the madness of running one’s own business!
What’s the one item every woman should have in her wardrobe?
The perfectly chic and comfortable legging that carries her seamlessly from sweat session through the rest of her day.
What are your style tips for dressing to the gym?
My personal style is tight on the bottom and baggy on top. I love oversized shirts with low armholes that allow a cute sports bra to peek through. Hair in a top knot and sometimes a headband if it’s an especially unruly hair day. Most importantly is starting my workout with a freshly washed face and zero makeup.
What’s your favourite healthy snack?
Smoothies are so satisfying when I need a healthy dose of energy. I love to throw in passion fruit (aka lilikoi in Hawaii – where I’m from and papaya for a more tropical flavor, topping it off with bee pollen. Yum!
What do you indulge in on a cheat day?
I’m not a huge sweets person, but I love to have a glass of good red wine and some dark chocolate.
What’s your workout of choice?
I love the speed and adrenaline of spin, and how much you sweat! I do yoga for strengthening and toning, Iyengar being my favorite style. It’s soothing for the mind and a great de-stressor. My mom bought me a mountain bike for Christmas a couple years back and I love it! I go for a ride at the end of my workday. It’s both empowering and freeing.
Do you have any fitness goals you would love to achieve?
I have to admit I don’t like running. It’s painful! One day id love to sign up for a half marathon and overcome my issue with running. I know it would take some serious training and dedication on my part, but would feel great to get my body in running shape.
What do you do to relax?
There’s a Korean spa near where I live and it has these amazing saunas made with pink Himalayan salt bricks, clay, as well as ice rooms and heated agate floors you can sprawl out on and read a book. The whole experience feels divine, especially if you top it off with a scrub!
If there was a soundtrack to your life, what song would be playing right now?
