Proudly made in Britain, Lexie Sport is a young British sportswear label that has everyone buzzing. The striking prints and urban vibe of the brand makes this one of our favourite young activewear labels around. We spoke to designer and founder Lily Rice about her inspirations, her gym style tips and the future of Lexie Sport.
Who are you?
Hi I’m Lily Rice, the founder & designer of women’s sportswear brand Lexie.
What inspires you?
Everything! I find really unusual sources of inspiration in everyday things. I’m really passionate about women in sport and the Lexie woman so generally that’s the starting point when I design. But in terms of colour or pattern, the aesthetics, it really can be anything!
Who is the Lexie Sport girl?
It’s all about attitude, being game to try new sports, being passionate about what you do, having a voice and an opinion. We have our team and I think they exemplify our ideas and messages but are also completely unique and different from one another. The Lexie girl is about attitude and style!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I’d love for Lexie to grow and to be at the helm! To be inspiring women into and to stick with sport is a really important cause for me so I’d love to be doing more through Lexie towards this, with the goal of having all women passionate about sport. I also really want to continue to push British manufacturing and hope that Lexie will be a Great British sports brand! It would be great to have a stand alone store too!
What’s the one item every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Ooo tough! Our Lake Leggings, you can’t go wrong with those and perfect for both sport and street!
What are your tips for dressing to the gym?
Well firstly just because you’re at the gym doesn’t mean you can’t keep your usual sense of style. Nothing worse than seeing a normally stylish woman suffering in some salmon coloured lycra! Pick items that you like, that perform well and that are comfortable and it will make your gym experience so much better… We really design for ourselves at Lexie and consider the movements that are involved in working out but I want the clothing to fit in with my normal day to day wear!
What’s your favourite healthy snack?
I love Bounce Balls for a quick nibble and I’ve just discovered Everything But The Cow drinks, which are perfect for me as I don’t drink cow’s milk! I also love alpro soya yogurt with seeds, raisins and banana as a dessert treat!
What do you indulge in on a cheat day?
I don’t do cheat days! But general indulgences include serious hot chocolates, proper bubble baths and Ryan Gosling.
What’s your workout of choice?
I’ve started at a bootcamp called Gurka fit which is held at an old army base by Gurka instructors. Hard is not the word for it! I’ve found muscles I didn’t even know existed! But it’s awesome fun and a great atmosphere, plus I’ve been promised a night out with some Nepalese food by one of the other girls so that keeps me going!
Do you have any fitness goals you would love to achieve?
I’ve already run a half marathon but not yet tackled a full one and I’d also love to get back in to boxing and train seriously at that (although my hand eye co-ordination is questionable!) so if there is any one keen for a training challenge call me!
What do you do to relax?
I got married last year so I really enjoy hanging out with my husband, he’s super keen into fitness too so we both go to bootcamp which is fun! I enjoy a good film after too!
If there was a soundtrack to your life, what song would be playing right now?
Happy by Pharrell or Lily Allen Hard out there….which makes me sound a bit odd!
