A fitcation with Nike to Sark Island
When you get an email from Nike inviting you to go on a top secret adventure with them, you simply nod yes and don’t ask any questions. So, without knowing a lot of detail I was told to report to the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch on a Monday evening, bring my passport and things would be unfolding from there.
Arriving in the room at the Ace Hotel, my bed was covered with an entire outfit (down to the socks and hairband) and instructions to wear it in the morning. We were also fit for a Fuel band and one of the new Nike Pro Rival sports bras so we could tackle our adventure with the right support. After that, we hung out on the beautiful rooftop bar watching the sun set on London and headed for dinner with our respective teams for the adventures.
My team was the Train Insane crew, which consisted of myself, Carly Rowena, Charlotte from Lunges and Lycra, Hollie Wakeham, Claire from Chouquette and Vicky from Nike. We had an early night and a very early journey (with personalised bus) to the airport where we found out we would be headed to the Isle of Sark, a tiny island just next to Guernsey. From Guernsey we took the ferry and when we finally set foot on land at Sark, we immediately kicked things off with a Nike Training Club warm up, followed by a cross-island run to the hotel – there’s no cars on the island, so we didn’t have much choice.
After lunch (and another bed covered with more goodies – spoiled much?) we headed towards a field overlooking the sea where we had an epic NTC session combined with a Barry’s Bootcamp class – tough to say the least, but working out in such an incredible space made it so much easier. After the gorgeous sunny workout, we headed back to the hotel where we had a few hours to relax (hot tub time!) before a special Nike ID session where we got to design our own team trainers – the result will be revealed soon!
We were all absolutely knackered and headed straight to bed after bed, to get rested for a big day. Day 2 started off with a yoga session taught by Jess from Fat Buddha Yoga, before we headed off on our big island adventure. We were given a map of the island which had 3 locations marked where a challenge awaited us. Cycling around this car-less, gorgeous and sunny island, it was easy to forget we were still in the UK! Our first challenge saw us climb down to the most beautiful beach, and go up the million stairs again. Our second challenge was to pull a horse carriage back and forth as fast as possible (we beat the other team hands down, obviously) and – saving the best for last – for the third challenge we climbed down into a beautiful cave.
Once we’d all returned to the hotel, we had a celebratory drink and lunch before hopping back on the boat to Guernsey. Although it was only 2 days, this trip will stay with me for a lifetime – an awesome group of girls of every level of fitness tackling workouts together as a team whilst discovering this incredible island so close to home makes this a truly unforgettable experience…
Thank you Nike for allowing us to be part of this incredible adventure!
