Both having an impressive career in the fashion industry, these friends decided to team up and take activewear to the next leve. LAAIN is a sleek, luxurious and stylish brand featuring both timeless basics and bold statement pieces. Here we chat to them about their vision, their inspiration and cheat day indulgences…
Who are you?
Tamara Rothstein and Sheila McKain-Waid, designers of Performance and Lifestyle Sportswear brand LAAIN.
What inspires you?
We both are very inspired by art, but inspiration can really come from anywhere, from contemporary painting to street fashion. London is such a diverse city.
Who is the Laain girl?
She is a modern woman who juggles a very active lifestyle and wants clothes that can easily transition between the various facets of her life.
How did you get into designing sportswear?
We have both worked in the fashion industry for many years and have experience working for a variety of luxury brands, but felt there was really a gap in our wardrobes for pieces that took us from a yoga class to a meeting. We have taken our experience in RTW and translated the same skills and language into sportswear.
Where do you see yourself / the brand in 5 years’ time?
Each season we see an evolution that happens quite organically based on our customer needs. Our goal is to expand the range to cover all aspects of fitness.
What’s the one item every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Our legging- it’s so flattering!
What are your style tips for dressing to the gym?
We really feel that the way you dress for the gym should reflect the way you dress in every other aspect of your life. We always find it funny when super stylish women suddenly dress for the gym in head to toe fuchsia. We like it to be quite easy and relaxed.
What’s your favourite healthy snack?
Tamara makes the most amazing Cashew crackers!
