Last week we had the absolute pleasure of meeting (and working out with) heptathlete Katarina Johnson Thompson at the launch of her new NTC app workout. Not only did her workout totally kick our butts, not only is she hailed as one to watch at the 2016 Olympics, not only is she absolutely stunning with a *killer* body, but she’s only 22, totally inspirational and one of the nicest girls on the planet. So we grabbed a few minutes of her time to ask her a couple of questions about her dreams, naughty snacks and gym style tips….
How did you get into the Heptathlon?
I got into the heptathlon through my mum actually. I was only doing high jump and then I ended up doing long jump and then I ended up doing hurdles and I was running from event to event. I would get high-jump done then to hurdles then back to the high-jump then go to the long jump. My mum found an event where you went from event to event together and I loved it.
What advice would you give young girls who want to take up sports – as a hobby or on a competitive level?
Try everything. That’s what I did, I went through loads of different hobbies before I found athletics. Just try everything and eventually you will find something that you like and it’ll stick.
What’s the one item your wardrobe you can’t live without?
Black jeans and my Tech Pack hoodie! I always wear it – over jeans or with leggings.
You’ve already achieved so much at such a young age – what other milestones, records or goals do you still want to achieve?
Definitely an Olympic gold!
What are your style tips for dressing to work out?
I love the Nike Pro collection and I always wear that to go training as well as my Nike Pegasus.
What’s your favorite healthy snack?
What do you indulge in on a cheat day?
I like eggs, I’m an egg person but I have them every day. On my cheat day I would have sticky toffee pudding with vanilla Madagascar ice cream
What do you do to relax?
I take my dogs for a walk.
If there was a soundtrack to your life, what song would be playing right now?
I love Lady Leshurr – Queen Speech 3, I know it’s not a song I should love but I absolutely adore it.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s Runner’s Strength and Balance workout is now available on the Nike NTC app. The workout was designed to build strength and balance, two skills which are essential to a heptathlete who has to conquer multiple events. The workout is 16 minutes long and includes moves such as lunges, mountain climbers, side planks and hip flexor stretch. You can download the NTC app here.
