How do you combine your love for food with keeping fit? Being around delicious food and cakes all day long must make coping with temptation very difficult!
It is difficult. Sometimes really, really hard. I do need to watch what I eat on a daily basis and I use myfitnesspal to keep track. There are times when I am doing lots of cooking and tasting and so I have to be careful to really balance what I am eating and up the gym time!
How important is fitness in your life? How did you start your fitness journey?
Fitness to me is so important. It has helped me through so many different challenging times in my life. From the outside looking in, I think that those who are not interested in fitness are really missing out. It is not really just about having tight abs, it is about the way it makes me feel when I am working out and the sense of achievement after it too. For me the gym is a way of life. It is so important for women to do weights as well – yoga and pilates are good but it is all about balance and doing a bit of yoga and weights is the perfect combo…
You recently started a new Instagram account, @liftyourselfslim. What advice would you give to girls who might be intimidated to go into the weights section of the gym?
I agree that the first few times in the weight section can be quite scary, but I think that goes with many firsts. The best thing to do is to get a free induction that so many gyms offer now and have a trainer show you around the area and then look for a programme either from a trainer or from the internet. Bodybuilding.com is a great resource with videos of how to do the exercises correctly.
Do you have any fitness goals you want to achieve?
I would like to continue to get stronger and fitter. Build my lower body more and enjoy the process.
What makes you feel confident?
The gym! Lifting heavy. Friends, family and being kind to myself.
What is your workout of choice?
It would be lifting weights and/or spinning
What do you indulge in on a cheat day? What is your healthy snack of choice?
I don’t have cheat days but healthy snack would be apple with peanut butter
What are your style tips for the gym?
I like bright trainers with dark leggings. I think it looks the most chic. I’m not so good with colourful leggings. Make sure when you are trying leggings on before you buy that you can squat in them without them coming down at the back!
What inspires you every day?
My daughter inspires me every day
What’s the one item every woman should have in her wardrobe?
The ubiquitous little black dress
