US activewear label Track & Bliss is mixing high fashion with high performance to perfection, with pieces that’ll perfectly take you from barre to brunch. From the soft scalloped edges to the subtle prints and highly technical fabrics, founder Luciana Scarabello has found that perfect gap in the activewear market. We spoke to her about her inspiration, ambitions, gym wardrobe tips and much more.
Who are you?
I’m Luciana Scarabello, founder and creative director of TRACK&BLISS.
What inspires you?
I draw inspiration from everything that surrounds me, ultimately the TRACK&BLISS girl. My background is in high-fashion so I’m always trying to find ways to translate some of those sophisticated details and beauty into activewear.
Where do you see TRACK&BLISS in 5 years’ time?
I would love to see TRACK&BLISS’ collections grow into different categories. I plan to expand the line to include more loungewear pieces and hopefully one day develop a men’s line.
What has been your biggest career highlight to date?
There hasn’t been a particular moment that I could point out but a lot of little moments. For instance when retailers and consumers praise the collection you have been working nonstop on for months, when we sell out and when the TRACK & BLISS girl reaches out to let us know how happy she is with her purchase!
Do you have any advice for people starting out in fashion?
The fashion industry is very demanding. You should only get started in fashion if you truly love it because it will become your whole universe. In order to succeed you must really love what you do!
What’s the one item every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Our ‘Into the Moonlight’ leggings. Scalloped waistline, subtle leopard knit in a solid black compression fabric. We brought it back by popular demand!
What are your style tips for dressing to the gym?
I love to layer items. If you are wearing a beautiful sportsbra, you can show it by wearing tanks that have cut out details on the sides or in the back. Low necklines also work to showcase sportsbras that present design elements in the front.
What’s your favourite healthy snack?
Açai Bowl! I can eat it every day.
What do you indulge in on a cheat day?
Pizza. Since I don’t have it often, when I do I try to get the best pizza possible!
What’s your workout of choice?
I love Pilates and Barre and I try to do these types of workouts at least 3 times a week. I also go to dance classes and that’s how I get my cardio in. It’s so much more fun than running on a treadmill! I do these classes 2-3 times a week.
How do you motivate yourself when you don’t feel like working out?
I have such a busy schedule that I feel so lucky when I can make the time to workout. I miss it so much when I have to travel or when I’m finishing a collection, that whenever I get some time I always look forward to it.
Do you have any fitness goals left you would love to achieve?
I used to do the splits and since I started practicing Yoga a couple of years ago I said to myself that I was going to do the splits again. I still haven’t been able to do one!
What do you do to relax?
It’s really hard to find the time and I think that my gateway is working out and that is pretty much all that I do with my free time since I’m working most of the time.
What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
My dad has given me so much of the best advice throughout my career. He is my rock! When a situation became difficult, I used to get very frustrated and he used to always tell me, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”, meaning that the strong will work harder to meet the challenge. I live by that rule.
If there was a soundtrack to your life, what song would be playing right now?
U2 – I still haven’t found what I’m looking for. I’m very curious and I’m always looking for new meanings and adventures.
